About the Course

The Novice/Atom Powerskating Clinic is specifically designed for young hockey players, targeting both defensemen and forwards eager to enhance their skating skills. This program emphasizes the foundational elements of skating, enabling players to build confidence and competence on the ice. Whether your child is just starting out or looking to refine their technique, this clinic provides an ideal environment for skill development.

Key Components:

  1. Understanding the Proper Stride:

    • Participants will delve into the mechanics of an effective skating stride. Coaches will guide players through drills that focus on balance, power transfer, and rhythm, helping them to develop a strong and efficient stride that maximizes speed while minimizing fatigue.

  2. Edge Work:

    • Learning to use edges effectively is crucial for agility and control. Players will engage in exercises that teach them how to shift their weight and utilize both inside and outside edges. This skill is essential for making quick turns, maintaining stability, and improving overall skating agility.

  3. Building Power and Speed:

    • The clinic includes targeted workouts aimed at increasing skating power and speed. Through a combination of technique-focused drills and explosive skating exercises, players will learn how to accelerate quickly and maintain high speeds during play.

  4. Forward and Backward Skating:

    • Mastery of both forward and backward skating is essential for all positions. Players will practice various drills that enhance their skills in both directions, focusing on balance, speed, and fluid transitions. This training will ensure that participants can effectively maneuver in any game situation.

  5. Tight Turns and Crossovers:

    • Athletes will learn how to execute tight turns and crossovers with precision and speed. These techniques are vital for evading opponents and maintaining momentum. The clinic will offer structured drills that help players practice these skills in a controlled setting, preparing them for game scenarios.
